FCC shreds unfavorable report
This would be shocking news if we weren't already so inured to the daily outrages coming from this adminstration. The FCC destroyed a report that revealed media consolidation of local TV stations was detrimental to the public.
And somehow, thanks to the never sleeping eye of the internets, you can see a copy of the working draft here[pdf].
Your taxes paid for that report and they ripped it up because it didn't support their position, or rather the position of their corporate masters. I'm really glad this came out. Media consolidation is a problem that is not getting enough attention and it's just as dangerous as rigged voting.
Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif. received a copy of the report “indirectly from someone within the FCC who believed the information should be made public,” according to Boxer spokeswoman Natalie Ravitz.FAIR has an action alert with contact info for the FCC Inspector General and many more details about the underhanded dealings that led to this.
Adam Candeub, now a law professor at Michigan State University, said senior managers at the agency ordered that “every last piece” of the report be destroyed. “The whole project was just stopped _ end of discussion,” he said. Candeub was a lawyer in the FCC’s Media Bureau at the time the report was written and communicated frequently with its authors, he said.

Typical of this administration, if you don't like the results, toss them in the round file. Truth? What truth?
Don't forget they make their own reality PoP. And it ain't that pretty at all...
all us old stern fans know the score with the FCC. they do absolutely nothing except occasionaly kow towing to mass mailings from the religious right by fining someone. they are a huge waste of money. and in fact, as this study shows, they are actually harmful to the media they claim to be preserving or cleansing or whatever it is they say they do.
You got that right Lester. The FCC has been little more than a rubber stamp for corporate policy for many years now.
