To be a Liberal

The Chicago Tribune has an interesting editorial on what it means to be a Liberal. They're asking for feedback by 2:00 today. I just sent this:

To be a Liberal is to seek facts rather than mere affirmation of one's views. A Liberal persuades with reasoned analysis rather than with insinuation, intimidation and ugly epithets. To be a Liberal is to work towards the common good at the expense of personal gain. A Liberal accepts responsibility for the well-being of the "least" of our citizens, in order that all Americans may enjoy the security that only some gain through accident of birth. Most importantly, a Liberal understands that shared power is preferable to unilateral rule and that power gained by consensus is preferable to power taken by trickery and tyranny.

Now if we could just get rid of the "Centrists" and get some Liberals back into office, we might still save our Republic.

Thanks for the support Kathy. I realized in looking at it again, I was supposed to give more contact information and I forgot to add it to my sig. They may not take it at all.

Lester, you haven't shown your right wing in a long time. I was beginning to think we had converted you. And all those battles had been won but they've been reopened by the White House, not the Liberals. We're forced to fight the same fight all over again. And economic socialism/ high taxes is RNC talking point. Public health programs are not socialist, they're a humane response to an unequal distribution of wealth. Your taxes are going to go up in any event to pay for the current follies. Bush's smoke and mirrors economy is going to go bust and it won't be pretty.

the problem is not republican or democrats version of spending the problem is spending period.

when david dinkins was mayor of new york the taxes were absurd and he did nothing. guliani lower taxes and lower crime. you don't need tax dollars to be effective.

I'm socially liberal, but I wouldn't vote for someone based on that. what are they going to do give women the right to vote?

But Lester, spending and the size of gov't has increased under GOP management. Not to mention, if you don't vote for social liberals you'll end up with a theocracy under the TaliBaptists.
