Demented

By Libby

Hate mail of the month comes from my old friend Frank at the Detroit News.

Reply to Ms.Spemcer: You are correct when you claim it is a "gratutitous" remark you made about McCain. As the Doubleday Dictionary tells us that "gratutitous" "is without cause ,uncalled for, unnecessary" and your remark was certainly that. You have a closed mind that will not accept anything that does not fit your goals coupled with the fact that your mind will not accept new info from others. You have a set, almost demented, mind. To you all things not of the Demcratic genre is "evil'. Thank God (Yes despite the fact that your fellow travelers have made, and will continue to made, attempts to remove God from our lexicon there is a GOD) That there are, and has been people on both sides of issues that look at facts and then make up and/or change their opinions (think Libermen).

To read you, which I seldon do, is to waste time on foolish words Frank Mannino
This is the most cogent criticism he's ever made, possibly in his whole life. I pissed him off so much, he had to think about it and he looked things up. I love that. It feels like progress somehow.

Reminds me of a drunk trying to sound sober.

It's surprising how common is the accusation that one can't accept new ideas. Everyone thinks their old ideas are new.

It's astounding how they all use the exact same slurs. They must hear it on Limbaugh or something. Whatever Rush says...

He sounds like an idiot to me. And did I read it wrong or does he use Lieberman as a good example?????

Who is brainwashing these poor souls?

I actually love most of my critics over there. I haven't figured out Frank yet. He's relatively new. I think he may just be a bad typist and is smarter than he looks in the comments. He's a cut above the knuckledragging ignorati.

In any event, if I'm pissing him off enough to make him think about what he's saying, to go do research, I think I'm doing my job.

Frank is nothing compared to that lunatic who goes by the pen name "Hills Bills"! Today he made another allusion between Sen. Obama and the Nazis.

Ever since I was on the panel, I wondered how many hits the DetNews politics blog gets from unique users. It has always seemed that at any given time, the same four or five nutcases were trolling in the comments section. Libby, have you ever been made privy to traffic info?

Hill Billy is truly a nutcase. I've been thinking for a while he's the same guy who used to blog there, who came on board around the time JD did. They were co-nutcases for a while. Wasn't his name Bill?

I think he was posting in comments under a different name and then you outed him because he was using ca-ca in his comments so he dropped out of sight for a while and then this Hill Bill showed up.

I forget his name or I'd try to google him. I think he had his own blog too, so we could compare styles.

I almost forgot about that! I can't remember his name either. I can be pretty good at picking up particular writing ideocyncracies in people though. I've outed other writers on other boards using more than one pen-name by noticing similarities in writing styles and habits.

That guy wasn't on the DetNews blog for very long. Do you know, was he asked to leave? Some writers like you and J.D. stick around forever, while others come and go. I left when I ran for city council because of the rule forbidding those campaigning from blogging. We've seen some capable writers go quickly while some less capable, like J.D., stay. Do you ever get feedback or info from the blog moderator, whoever he is? I never did the whole time I was on the panel.

Oops, I'm rambling. I just wonder about these things though, like I wonder if the low number of regular commenters there is any correlation to the actual number of visitors there.

Libby; I think the guy's name was Mike. I still can't remember his last name though. I think you're onto something though.

I could have sworn that guy's name was Bill but there's been a lot of bloggers since I got there. I'm number 37 and the newest one is 102. I can't remember the names of most of them, even the ones I liked. As to feedback, I rarely get any either and know nothing about how they choose their bloggers or why on God's earth they let someone like JD stay on forever. I find him really offensive.

As for the readership, I did ask once I think back in 04 and at that time I think I was told we were averaging between 3,500 - 5,000 hits a day. When I first got there we had a lot more commenters, most of them lefties but people got disgusted when the wingnuts took over the place and stopped commenting. Also I think at least some of them just started their own blogs instead, like Kathy at Stone Soup.
