Restoring Truthiness 10-10-10

In response to the ridiculous Beckfest last week, a new movement has arisen to support a Restoring Truthiness Rally.
A grassroots campaign has begun to get Stephen Colbert to hold a rally on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial to counter Glenn Beck's recent "Restoring Honor" event. The would-be rally has been dubbed "Restoring Truthiness" and was inspired by a recent post on Reddit, where a young woman wondered if the only way to point out the absurdity of the Tea Party's rally would be if Colbert mirrored it with his own "Colbert Nation."

Now with its own website and Facebook group with over 8,000 members, the call for Colbert to hold a rally is spreading through the Internet like wildfire. Aside from being a satire of Beck's rally, the petition claims the rally is necessary because, "Recently our nation has suffered a truthiness drain."
Who knows if that will go anywhere or just be a flash in the pan meme, but I love the poster.

Meanwhile, this One Nation Rally on 10-2-10 is the real deal. I'm unlikely to be able to join the march myself, but it would be great to see a big turnout of DFHs and other liberal types if only to prove our side can do more than just throw up endless snarky mockery in response to the Tea Party.

And just what was so wrong or absurd about the Rally that Beck had? Just because you don't agree with what they might say (and thus far I have seen little to nothing on any political potshots from that)?

I would encourage any type of rally as a means of getting people involved in the process. Even if I don't agree with the platform. I would prefer someone to disagree with me and know why the disagree then someone that just blindly follows. You seem to be for free speech if that speech conforms to your beliefs (like Park51 and Democrats in general) but very quickly label people as 'crazies' and absurd if they voice opinions that differ from yours and you typically can't explain why they are 'so wrong'.

Stunning -- absolutely amazing. Any type of rally? Now where did I put that riot act. . .

Look, Beck isn't getting anyone involved in "the process" he's got his own process and he's paid well for promoting hysteria and bearing false witness with idiotic statements about Christian social justice leading to death camps. He has no background in history, economics, science or anything else yet that's what he cries and howls about like a spoiled child. His 'process' doesn't involve democracy as it was designed to work in this country. It's about bypassing checks and balances and mob rule. It's about overwhelming the system with the wrath of the deluded, misinformed and unbalanced. Yeah, sure, call that "name calling." I call it truth telling.

Is Beck crazy? What he is, is something to make us question what that word means. He says crazy things but he gets filthy rich from them. Perhaps it's just profound ignorance - perhaps it's some of both, but I think you're pretending you don't know why informed people think he's a menace. If you really don't think he's a Demagogue for hire, a patsy for a cabal of billionaires, promoting their interests over yours and undermining the democracy that would limit their power and greed, it's pitiful in a sick sort of way.
